Below is the procedure for handling swap transactions that may occur across various platforms, including wallets, DeFi protocols, and other crypto platforms. While these transactions may not always be automatically recognized as trades in Finbooks, they still represent actual trading activity and therefore need to be correctly identified and linked.
Finbooks typically imports such transactions as separate deposits and withdrawals, but users can manually link them and classify the pair as a trade.
Doing so ensures that the outgoing transaction is excluded from capital gains calculations, unless required otherwise by the tax regulations of the userâs country.
How to manage swaps
click on Transactions from the main menu on the left
locate the transaction to link as a swap from the list and click on the three dots
now click on Edit
select Swap transaction category from the dropdown menu, then click on Save changes
Finbooks will indicate the absence of the related transaction
repeat the procedure for the other transaction (if you worked on the deposit earlier, it will be the withdrawal, or vice versa).
now go to the Alerts page and click on Fix Swaps inside the alert banner
you will visualize the transactions that need to be linked, then click on Fix
the software will ask you to link a transaction, click on Select to choose the transaction to pair-click on Create new if you haven't entered the transaction yet
by clicking on Select the software will suggest the transaction to link, to complete the pairing click on Select and link
done! the outgoing and incoming transactions are now linked together as a swap
