Notification "New APIs"

⚪️ User guide

When this notification appears in your Finbooks account, it means that an updated API connection is now available for the indicated exchange or blockchain.

This update replaces older APIs or CSV uploads and allows your data to be synchronized automatically, with better performance and fewer errors.

Switching to the new API ensures more reliable imports and a smoother user experience.

What is an API connection?

An API connection is the most efficient way to link your exchange with Finbooks. Unlike CSV files, APIs allow automatic data transfers, keeping your balances and transaction history up to date without manual uploads.

With each API update, Finbooks improves the quality of imports by fixing errors, improving speed, and aligning with the latest requirements of each exchange.

Why is it important to switch to the new API?

Using the latest version of the API matters because:

  • it improves accuracy in transaction downloads, reducing errors caused by outdated connections

  • it ensures compatibility with your exchange's most recent settings

  • it saves time, since transactions are imported automatically and continuously

Sticking to old APIs or CSV uploads may still work temporarily, but you risk running into issues such as incomplete histories, missing data, or manual workarounds.

What happens if you don't switch?

If you decide not to switch immediately, nothing will change: your current connection (CSV or old API) will remain active. However, you may continue experiencing inefficiencies such as slower imports or occasional missing transactions.

Finbooks will keep offering you the option to update later, but we recommend acting as soon as possible to benefit from the improved reliability.

How to proceed when you see the notification

Click the notification in the What's new section: it will take you to the connection, where you can click on Pick connection type to start the switch.

This action cannot be undone.

What to expect after switching

Once you choose to switch to the new API, the process is automatic. Finbooks will:

  • delete the old connection and its data

  • start a full re-download of your transactions via the updated API

  • keep balances and reports up to date without requiring manual CSV uploads

This way, your exchange data will remain synchronized and fully reliable for your tax calculations. The completion of the re-download will also be confirmed with a "Data updated correctly" notification in the Notification Center.
